Second Annual Oscars Preview

It is the most wonderful time of the year folks! Award season is in full swing and the granddaddy of them all, The Oscars is tonight. Just like last year I am going to be bringing you through all the biggest awards of the night with a rundown of the nominees, my prediction on who will take the Oscar home and my personal ballot if I was in The Academy. This year is particularly special for me because to be honest, it was my favorite year of cinema in a long long time. All of the Best Picture nominees were must see cinema, plus there were a few more films that could have also gotten Best Picture nods (The Farewell, Knives Out, Uncut Gems, Midsommar to name a few). On top of all of that we got the conclusion to the Skywalker Saga with Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, and of course the biggest cinematic event of all time with the 2.79 billion dollar worldwide phenomenon of Avengers Endgame.

So where do we start? I am going to be breaking these awards down on a per paragraph basis, the order of the awards are going to be: Best Visual Effects, Best Score, Best Animated Feature, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Original Screenplay, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Director, and Best Picture. I will bold all my picks so you guys can all see how wrong I am come Monday morning! Alright without further ado… here, we, go.

BEST VISUAL EFFECTS:

I am going to be completely honest with you, I am biased. Very, very, very, biased. Because of that I am going to tell you that my pick for the award is Avengers: Endgame. The other nominees are: The Irishmen, The Lion King, 1917, and Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker. I just can’t pick another movie over Avengers: Endgame. I can’t do it. They could win this award on Thanos character design alone. The final battle was insane, Hulk and Rocket were done amazing per usual, they did so much on green screen that looked so real that I just can’t give this award to any other film, and yes I know I am a Marvel fanboy but fuck you if you think this movie doesn’t deserve this. I could see the Academy going with a few of the other choices, especially The Lion King because of its creation of an entire world that looked live action………. but fuck that movie those animals looked stupid and fell into the uncanny valley.

BEST SCORE:

Best Score this year is actually super tough for me. I really really like all the nominees and I know a lot of people think this is going to be a landslide victory for Joker but I am not quite sure. That being said, I am going to be going with Hildur Guðnadóttir’s work on Joker as my pick. The other nominees are: 1917, Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, Little Women, and Marriage Story. This was hard for me because 1917 was actually really close for me, and I love John Williams and Randy Newman’s work in general so I really enjoyed each of their respective work this year. But this has GOT to be Joker. Just has to be. The score was so important in the movie, it really set the tone and made audiences feel a constant sense of unease and anxiety even when not much was happening on screen. The music is so eery that as it built I found myself actually getting goosebumps in theaters. I think the Academy is going to agree with me on this one tomorrow and also give Hildur Guðnadóttir the nod for Best Score for Joker.

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE

Okay, kind of a letdown of a year for animated films for me, which was super surprising. Going into the year I would’ve told you Toy Story 4 on its own would have made this an awesome year for animated films, but honestly, Toy Story 4 let me down. Don’t get me wrong it was a great movie on its own but in the grand scheme of the franchise it felt super unnecessary and more of an unneeded Woody epilogue rather than another chapter in the Toy Story saga. I mean goddamn Toy Story 3 was the perfect ending what the hell was Disney thinking?! (Hint: Money.). However I digress. My pick for the award is Klaus and the other nominees are Toy Story 4, How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, Missing Link, and I Lost My Body. I do think Toy Story 4 and Missing Link have a chance too.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR

Brad motherfucking Pitt. That’s the pick, Brad Pitt. This is probably the most stacked acting nomination group of maybe all time with Tom Hanks, Anthony Hopkins, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci also being nominated. Talk about an A-List group sheeeesh. Pitt was just awesome in the role and I think the Academy is going to agree with me and give him the award. He won the SAG and the Golden Globe as he goes for the trifecta with the Oscar and I can’t wait to see Brad take home a much earned first Academy Award.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS

Yet another star studded group, with the likes of Margot Robbie, Laura Dern, Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh and Kathy Bates. I think this award is pretty straight forward from the Academy’s standpoint in the sense that it is going to go to Laura Dern for her role in Marriage Story. Dern was amazing and has been cleaning up throughout award season, the Academy Awards will probably continue this trend as a whole for the big four acting awards with the guilds, globes, and various critic choices all have been being swept so far this year. If this award were to go elsewhere I think there is a huge discrepancy with where the Academy would go with it and where I would personally go myself. I think Florence Pugh for Little Women is the dark horse to unseat Dern for the award, however, personally my vote would go to Scarlett Johansson for JoJo Rabbit. Scar Jo in JoJo Rabbit just really hit for me for some reason, something was so pure about it that I loved, she really stole the show every time she was on screen and I felt such a genuine connection to her character throughout the entirety of the film. So to recap, Dern will deservingly win, however, I would personally give the award to Scar Jo.

BEST ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE

Probably the easiest award of the night, being Joaquin Phoenix has seemingly all but been crowned for the award already for his performance as Arthur Fleck in Joker. The other nominees are Adam Driver, Leonardo DiCaprio, Anthony Banderas, and Jonathan Pryce. There really isn’t much to say about this award, but if I have to choose a dark horse I have to go with Adam Driver with a minimal chance to steal the award from Phoenix. I would say throw the house on Phoenix but with the odds Vegas has on the award you wouldn’t make any money anyway, that is how much of a lock this is.

BEST ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE

I hate to sound like a broken record right now but I sincerely do believe all four of the acting awards are being looked at as very straight forward by the academy, and because of this I am predicting the award will be going to Renee Zellweger for her portrayal of Judy Garland in the biopic Judy as she completes her Hollywood comeback tour by sweeping all the major acting awards throughout award season. The other nominees are Charlize Theron, Cynthia Erivo, Scarlett Johansson, and Saoirse Ronan. I think there are two possibilities for people to upset Zellweger tonight and those are Cynthia Erivo and Scarlett Johansson. Erivo’s portrayal of Harriet Tubman in the film Harriet was unbelievably powerful and on top of that with such a socially moving movie I could see her making a lot of ballots. Johansson, the only actor nominated for a supporting and leading role this year was amazing as the female lead in Marriage Story opposite Adam Driver with a deeply emotion grabbing performance as a newly single mother trying to keep a family together through a divorce and may also be a dark horse against Zellweger. However, I believe Zellweger completes the award sweep tonight.

BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY

Oh boy this is an awesome one, and I think I have to go with Once Upon A Time In Hollywood as my pick for who will take the Oscar home tonight. Simply put, Hollywood loves Hollywood. Historically nothing wins over the Academy then a movie about Hollywood and Once Upon A Time is a literal love letter to Old Hollywood and I think that will play extremely well with voters. The other nominees are: Parasite, Marriage Story, 1917, and Knives Out. I think Parasite also has a really good chance to take home the award as the script concept was truly original, it played out in an extremely surprising manner, and there is a HUGE excitement over a foreign language film having this good of a shot in so many major awards and that may get voters excited to vote for it. A personal pick of mine here is actually Knives Out. I think Rian Johnson made a near perfect murder mystery that excites at every turn and never had a dull moment throughout the films entirety.

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY

The nominees for best adapted screenplay are: The Irishman, JoJo Rabbit, Joker, Little Women, and The Two Popes. I think I would go with JoJo Rabbit for this award. The satire was intelligent, funny, and a real tearjerker. Scar Jo, Roman Griffin Davis, Thomasin McKenzie, Sam Rockwell and Taika Waititi were all amazing in their roles and although their acting was amazing lot of that success came from great dialogue and a moving story by Taika Waititi. I think the other option, and probably where this award will go, is Joker. Loosely adapted from the classic comic The Killing Joke, Joker was an awesome psychological thriller that made audiences sincerely anxious and took a great look on how society treats those who suffer from mental illness. I would honestly be happy with either of these movies winning so this really is a win win for me on this award if it goes to either of them.

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY

The nominees for best cinematography are: The Irishman, Joker, The Lighthouse, 1917, and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. The clear winner here has to be 1917. It could win on the running through the battle shot alone. The panning and following shots throughout the movie honestly made the film and I know this is bold but I think that it was my favorite cinematography of all time. I was blown away and I would be astonished if this award went anywhere else, seems like a shoe in to me.

BEST DIRECTOR

I think best director is a two horse race right now between Sam Mendes and Bong Joon Ho, and my pick is Sam Mendes. Mendes has one the Directors Guild and the Golden Globe for best directing, and traditionally over the past decade the Directors Guild winner has won almost all of the best director Oscar’s. The other nominees for the award are Todd Phillips, Quentin Tarantino, and Martin Scorsese, and honestly although I think they are more outside shots I really do think any of these awesome filmmakers are deserving of the win for their work on their respective films, but with the cinematography and shot / set choices on 1917 I think Mendes will take the award home tonight.

BEST PICTURE

Okay, the big one. Boy oh boy do I love all these films. This is the best Best Picture class in a long long long long long time. I think there were honestly 13 movies deserving of a nomination but only nine were nominated (which by the way is bullshit, use all ten nomination spots you fucking cowards). Our official nominees are: Joker, 1917, The Irishman, Little Women, Parasite, JoJo Rabbit, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Marriage Story, and Ford vs Ferrari. Here are my top five:

Coming in at fifth for me is a tie between Joker and Parasite. Both these movies were so amazing in their own right. On one hand Joker strives from all around strong acting performances, a nearly perfect score, and a great overview on social politics and mental illness in the country as a whole. On the other hand Parasite is a script and director lead film, which also dives deep into classism and brings you on a journey that takes many unexpected twists and turns and feels extremely poetic at the end. Why these films were very similar to me was that I thought they both did the same level job with dealing with social issues and both brought audiences on awesome anxiety ridden rides.

At number four for me is Ford vs Ferrari. Based on a true story Ford v Ferrari was an all around good time. It was just so fun. Bale and Damon both kill it in their roles and the film does an amazing job pulling at audiences heartstrings. On top of that, the way the film displayed the racing aspect was refreshing and felt much more real than your average racing movie. I think out of all of the Best Picture nominations Ford vs Ferrari is the best movie to sit down and watch with your family or by yourself for a  fun rewatch and I mean that in the best way possible.

My third place choice is Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Although it runs over three hours, the film doesn’t feel it, and a lot of that enjoyability through a long runtime can be credited to the dynamic duo starring in the film, Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt. Leo and Brad’s chemistry was god tier and made just hanging out with these characters through their day to day lives super fun must watch cinema. Julia Butters is the unsung hero of the film playing young actress Trudy Fraser. Butters steals the scene every time she is on camera, especially when she is alongside DiCaprio and has some of the best moments in a film littered with huge stars. A little side note on the film, DiCaprio’s scene in his trailer when he is yelling at himself was not only my favorite movie scene of the year, but of the past five years, AT LEAST.

My second place film is JoJo Rabbit. I know the film hasn’t been getting much top three buzz and a lot of that may be because of how small scale the movie is compared to some of these great epics from Hollywood royalty, but the film is damn good. I believe JoJo Rabbit had undoubtedly the most moving story out of any of the films, a top 3 ensemble acting performance, and was extremely different than anything else in theaters this year. In any other year Roman Griffin Davis would get a leading actor nomination, but the field was too crowded this year and going against Hollywood royalty never helps. Overall I know the film probably won’t be the film inside the envelope tonight but I think it is as deserving as any of the others.

Finally, my Best Picture choice for this year is……. 1917! I loved this movie. Loved loved loved it. I didn’t want it to end. It had everything that I wanted from a best picture nominee: amazing cinematography, a moving story, characters I can get emotionally invested in, real stakes within the plot, great acting, an amazing set, made the audience feel a range of emotions throughout the film not just one or two, and it had that “it” moment, which was obviously the running through the battlefield shot in the third act (which was weirdly given away in the trailer…?). Overall 1917 is the most complete movie in the field this year in my opinion and I believe that because of this it will take home the Best Picture Oscar.

Okay that was the blog I hope you guys enjoyed my picks! Whether I am right or wrong I honestly don’t care because this year has been the best year of cinema in a long time for me and I truly do love essentially all the movies nominated tonight!!

Predicting The Initial CFP Top 10 Rankings

In a few hours we will get the initial CFP Playoff Rankings. No more AP Poll, no more Coaches Poll, the real thing is here. Considering there is no specific status quo for how the committee ranks the teams and every aspect of a team from their talent, the strength of their wins, the brutality of their losses, to the “eye test” is put into a melting pot of a resume, one of my favorite things to do is guess how the committee / how would I rank the top ten teams in the nation based on all the criteria available. So without further ado here is how I would rank the top ten teams in the nation.

1. Ohio State

Yes they are ranked #3 in the AP and Coaches Poll, but this is the CFP Poll and things are different. Let’s look at the facts, Ohio State is playing better than any team in the country this year. No team has came within 23 points of The Buckeyes and that includes wins against Cincinnati, Michigan State, and Wisconsin by a combined score of 116-17. 116-17. Fucking wild. On top of that they still get games against Penn State and arch rival Michigan, you have to think if they win the Big10 they’ll be #1 or #2 come selection day depending on the manner in which they keep winning.

2. LSU

2 and 3 are really a coin flip for me. Alabama probably has the talent but resume SO FAR goes to LSU. Wins against Texas, Florida, and Auburn are probably the three most important wins of the year thus far, and you could argue it could even bump them up to #1. They play at Bama this Saturday in a resume game that will likely put the winner at #1 in the land and #2 at worst.

3. Alabama

With Alabama I like to just talk facts. Alabama is either the most or second most talented team in the country. They have played absolutely nobody. They are the defending SEC Champs and CFP Finalists. They have been blowing teams out. AS OF NOW, they have to be #3 just because of resume thus far. A strong showing against LSU this Saturday would move them up.

4. Clemson

The defending champs are good. They are riding the longest winning streak in college football and have one of the most talented rosters in the land. However Clemson’s biggest problem is their schedule. In their only game against a ranked team (Texas A&M) they looked sloppy and won 24-10 against a non title contender. On top of that they only beat UNC by a single point, and played out of conference games against Charlotte and Wofford. But we know how good their ceiling is and winning out they should walk into a playoff spot.

5. Penn State

Penn State rounds out the top five and is my closest team to crashing the CFP party. This was an easy pick because they’re undefeated, a notch below OSU, LSU and Bama, and don’t have the benefit of the doubt Clemson does. They do have quality wins against Iowa, Michigan, and Michigan State and still get to play OSU so don’t be surprised to see Penn State leap frog Clemson on their way to jumping into the top 2-3 if they win out.

6. Georgia

This is where the poll starts to get a little harder but I believe this is the right decision. Georgia’s good wins against Florida and Notre Dame are better than the wins of any other competitor below them, and although they have an awful loss against South Carolina, the Bulldogs performance in their win against the Gators should be enough to earn them the highest 1 loss ranking in the land.

7. Oregon

Oregon comes next for me because their only loss was to Auburn and was by 6 points. On top of that they look good, and have beaten everyone in front of them since. Their schedule may not be the strongest but their talent and how tough they played Auburn gives them the edge over my next three teams.

8. Oklahoma

I believe Oklahoma should be 8. I believe the committee may rank them 7 because of their win over Texas and loss to a pretty good K-State team. My thought process is that Auburn is that much better than Texas where Oregon gets the edge over Oklahoma in these rankings.

9. Florida

This may look crazy but I just think that they’re better than Utah or Baylor who don’t have any resume wins yet. Florida’s losses are LSU and Georgia, two teams in the top six right now. Utah and Baylor have played a combined 1 team who was ranked at the time of their game. They can and will pass Florida in future polls but not yet.

10. Baylor

This could be Utah. However I am giving the undefeated team the edge here. They haven’t been tested too hard yet, granted KSU and ISU are good. They have to play Oklahoma and Texas still and if they keep winning and take the Big 12, things will get interesting come decision day.

Obviously I won’t be 100% and I think the committee might favor LSU over OSU, and maybe like Utah and Oregon more than I like them as well. But happy CFP releasing day and let’s just hope for chaos from here on out!

Spider-Man Deal: What Will Mystery Second Film Be?

So by now everyone knows that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker will be returning to the MCU as Disney and Sony have made up and agreed to a two film extension where Disney will see their revenue share bump from 5 to 25 percent. The first of the two films has already been announced as the third stand alone Spider-Man film which will be releasing July 2021. While exact plot details are still unknown the film is most likely set to deal with the bombshell of Peter Parker’s identity being revealed to the public by Quentin Beck aka Mysterio and the doctored footage that J Jonah Jameson showed during the mid credit scene, the same footage that framed Spider-Man as the villain of the London attack.

Today I am going to be diving into what I think is the more interesting part of this deal and that is the second Marvel film. It is not specified whether it is a solo film, a team up film or an appearance in another hero’s solo film, so let’s dive in to what I think are the top 5 options for where we could see Spider-Man pop up.

1. Avengers 5

I mean this is probably the most straight forward option. Feige recently just came out and said that the Avengers will be reassembling sometime in the next few years, and you gotta think Marvel’s most profitable hero will be on that team. As for what we know about Avengers 5, we know that: it will be much smaller scale than Infinity War / Endgame and more along the lines of Age Of Ultron scale, it will have a much smaller team than those two films aswell probably going back to the traditional size teams from Avengers and Age Of Ultron, and finally the lineup will look “very different from what we have seen before” according to Kevin Feige. Overall I think this makes a lot of sense especially since a great deal of Far From Home was spent dealing with Peter having to step into Tony’s shoes (or glasses I guess if you wanna get literal) so putting him in this team makes a lot of sense. If I were to guess the lineup for A5 I would probably say it will be something along the lines of: Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Sam Wilson’s Captain America/Falcon, Doctor Strange, Wanda, Shang Chi, and maybe Bucky Barnes / T’Challa if Sebastian Stan stays on after Falcon and Winter Soldier and if T’Challa can leave his king duties to come on whatever mission it is, because remember Black Panther was not operating with the Avengers between Civil War and Infinity War and only really got involved because they needed him to help Vision.

2. Spider-Man 4: Sinister Six

Okay so obviously Marvel has been building up Spider-Man to fight the Sinister Six by leaving all his bad guys alive and with kind of loose end endings (remember Adrian Toomes aka Vulture and Matt Gargan aka Scorpion are in jail together while Quentin Beck aka Mysterio seemed to die but on very very very vague terms), and everyone seems to think that Spider-Man 3 will be the big accumulation and introduction to the Sinister Six all fighting Spider-Man, but we only have 3 villains. Yes theoretically they could introduce the other three next movie, but over crowding both old and new villains without any real introduction in the third installation of a Spider-Man movie is something we have seen before and it didn’t go well at all. Instead what I think Disney might do is set up a villain like Kraven The Hunter (and please cast Joe Manganiello) who would be a great fit especially with Peter’s identity, hunting Spider-Man down alongside another classic villain like Chameleon or maybe Tom Hardy’s venom since apparently Spider-Man is in both universes, and then after Spider-Man defeats them, you end the film with a Nick Fury style post credit scene of them being visited in their jail cell by none other than… Norman Osborne who assembles them along side Mysterio Scorpion and Vulture into the Sinister Six. Then with Peter Parker’s identity revealed and all the villains out of jail, plus a sinister Norman Osborne plan an epic final showdown is set up for Spider-Man 4.

3. Captain Marvel 2

MONEY. MONEY MONEY MONEY. LOTS OF IT. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

4. Fantastic Four

Marvel probably won’t wait this long to hold onto their second Spider-Man appearance since it seems like they’e working with what they have now before going into production on newly acquired titles like F4. However, in the comics Spider-Man teams up with them all the time, and is very close friends with Johnny Storm (Human Torch) so this would in fact make sense. Marvel needs a way to bridge in the Four into the MCU and what better way to do that then to use their biggest ally to help introduce them to this cinematic universe (although part of me really does just want them to have a standalone origin story) plus they both operate in NYC so it wouldn’t be crazy to think that they’d be responding to the same villainous outbreaks and therefore would work together.

5. Deadpool 3

I mean this would just be awesome. These two are commonly associated together and team up often in the comics, plus it’d just be damn good content to have R Rated Deadpool with Disney’s most kid friendly franchise. Just imagine all the meta jokes Wade Wilson would crack while on an adventure with Spider-Man. Seeing Peter Parker in Deadpool’s R Rated corner would also be hilarious aswell. Also Tom Holland and Ryan Reynolds together? Freakin awesome.

Where do you want Spider-Man to show up for his fourth appearance in the MCU? Are their any places I left out that you think should’ve made the cut? Are you like me and want literally all of these to happen? Let me know!

Marvel Phase 4 Slate: A Full Breakdown

It should come as absolutely no surprise that my first blog back this semester is going to be about the MCU, and for good reason. At Comic Con Marvel finally gave us an in depth look at Phase Four, and boy does it look exciting. Traditionally I would have loved to blog this in July, but I didn’t have access to the blog outside of school at the time, and screw it I’m just as hyped up as I was in July so let’s do it. Phase Four will consist of five cinematic releases per usual but also will include five streaming releases, to be seen exclusively on Disney+ (just take all my money Bob Iger). Anyway let’s get into it.

Black Widow (May 1st 2020)

Strangely enough Marvel’s opening of their new book moving away from the Infinity Sage and the OG 6 Avengers will focus on, well, one of the OG 6 Avengers in a prequel that takes place during the Infinity Saga. Essentially how it’s been described is that it’s going to be a prequel that will take place both in the late 90s/early 00s and also have scenes that take place post Civil War pre Infinity War during the time when Natasha was on the run with Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson. Signed onto the movie to play alongside Johannson are David Harbour who will be playing Red Guardian (essentially the USSR version of Captain America, super soldier serum and all) and Florence Pugh who will be playing Yelena Belova who in the comics is a fellow Red Room alumni with Natasha, and a rival of sorts who in the comics actually picks up the title of Black Widow for a period of time herself. The villain of the film will be Taskmaster, who for those of you who do not know is a villain in the comics who essentially can copy and reenact heroes moves and fighting styles, essentially giving him the ability to use their powers against them. Honestly, this movie may be coming out six years too late (A 2013 post Avengers 1 BW movie would have made perfect sense), but I am excited for it, it’s giving me great Jason Bourne feels to it and maybe we get a Clint Barton cameo and finally figure out what the hell happened in Budapest!

Falcon And The Winter Soldier (Fall 2020)

Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes are back for the first non cinematic release in MCU history (Netflix shows don’t count especially with Blade casting), and I am PUMPED. This is one of the releases that isn’t getting that much buzz in Phase Four but for me it’s easily in the top three. These two have great chemistry together, Daniel Brühl is returning to play Baron Zemo, with footage of him in the classic comic costume, and Emily Van Camp is coming back to play Sharon Carter who has been criminally underused in the MCU thus far. So take four great characters then add John Wick creator Derek Kolstad to the mix as the writer and this should be insane. Not many plot details have been discussed but maybe we get a little more on the super soldier stuff from Civil War which would be awesome, and I’m sure there will be a lot about picking up Cap’s mantle as the biggest side plot. Overall awesome stuff.

The Eternals (November 6th 2020)

Richard Madden. Richard Madden. Richard Madden. Richard Madden. If you have been reading my blog you know that Richard Madden is my boy. I love The Bodyguard and Robb Stark was my favorite character on Thrones for the first three seasons (fuck you Walder Frey). Kumail Nanjiani and Angelina Jolie starring too, plus the recent addition of Kit Harrington as Black Knight gives this film essentially a murders row of a cast. As far as plot goes, I explained it in a previous blog from last semester so I will just quickly recap that The Eternals are super-enhanced humans who were created in the beginning of the universe’s existence by The Celestials and traditionally fight their evil counterparts the Deviants and occasionally go at their creators too (Ego is one celestial we have met thus far). If I had to guess what storyline the MCU will do with them I would put my money on one of the ones that takes place around our time where The Eternals or at least some of The Eternals have forgotten who they are and are living amongst humans. I think that would make sense why Black Knight is going to be in the film. However Marvel did that type of plot recently with Captain Marvel so I am not sure that they’d head down that road again. Overall I am pretty stoked for this movie because it is going to be different and weird and people from Marvel are saying it’s the second most important film in MCU history behind Iron Man, probably in regards to the fact that it’s opening up the new look MCU to the world. Oh did I mention Richard Madden is in it?

Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings (February 12th 2021)

The next cinematic release for the MCU will be a mere three months after The Eternals, and will introduce us to Shang Chi. Honestly I don’t know much about this film yet except Simu Liu is playing the titular character, Awkwafina is playing an undisclosed role, and we are FINALLY getting the real Mandarin and The Ten Rings… This is another movie people are really sleeping on and I don’t think people understand how well this is going to do, especially internationally. This movie is going to make a billion dollars so fast your head will explode. If your not excited for it just remember that we’re finally getting one of the best villains in Marvel history with the Mandarin and that a Shang Chi movie means we’re also getting some insane hand to hand combat scenes.

WandaVision (Spring 2021)

Uhhh okay? First off what a fucking terrible title. Why is it one word? If it’s some stupid pun about wanda having a vision and well Vision I swear to god I riot. That being said, despite a ridiculous name and two B List characters I actually am somewhat excited…ish? This will be Disney+’s 2nd streaming property. I love Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff and I am really glad that she’s getting her own project to dive deeper into one of the most criminally underused heroes ever. I mean seriously she has powers from a goddamn infinity stone… like she almost held 6 stone Thanos back from Vision but hey let’s use her to give Cap a lift into a building then fight henchmen in Civil War but I digress. Rumors say it’s gonna start like a sitcom and then become epic, pulling from many classic sitcoms (one example was the Dick Van Dyke show). Like I guess it sounds cool? Big thing though is that apparently it leads right into Doctor Strange ATMUM.

Doctor Strange And The Multiverse Of Madness (May 7th 2021)

Yup. Yup. YUP. Everything about this looks awesome. We’re getting an actual multiverse, Wanda will be in it, there are rumors that Nightmare will be the villain, and it is going to be the MCU’s first scary movie. This is dope. I thought Doctor Strange 1 was okay, but I loved him in Infinity War and during his brief Ragnarok cameo. A horror movie in the MCU sounds awesome and supplemented with the trippy effects of the multiverse it should be insane.

Loki (Spring 2021)

I’m just going to come right out and say it. I don’t care…. Now I know everybody is going to be angry at me for saying that, but don’t come at me for not being excited, because I love Loki and I am sure this will be good, but does not take place in the main MCU! It’s just Loki in a parallel timeline doing a bunch of hood rat shit and messing with history, which don’t get me wrong sounds hilarious and great but really not needed. He had a great character arc. We don’t need to see a 2012 pre developed Loki who’s at his most evil going around in a parallel universe! To put into perspective this is Loki before Dark World when he starts his anti hero path, a mere hours after trying to destroy Earth. I just don’t get it. Maybe he travels back into main MCU by the end and is in Thor 4?

What If… (Summer 2021)

Hey remember when I said I didn’t care about Loki because it was a character who already had his time in a parallel universe doing things that didn’t affect the main MCU at all so it didn’t make me excited? Well…uhhhh… I am all in on What If. Show looks dank. Now I know I am a hypocrite for this. I absolutely am. It doesn’t help that they came right after each other, but listen to this: What If is an animated show that each episode deals with each movie in the MCU and how it could have gone different. That’s not beating a dead horse like Loki is (literally) but instead refreshing and new to the MCU. The first episode is What If Sharon Carter got the super soldier serum and Steve Rogers joined the war using an Iron Man suit built by Howard Stark. That sounds fun to me.

Hawkeye (Fall 2021)

Jeremy Renner comes back (RIP Jeremy Renner app) to play Clint Barton and train Kate Bishop in this Disney+ show. Probably just a Young Avengers lead in. I’m 80% sure this will just be Arrow season 1 and I haven’t even seen Arrow season 1.

Thor: Love and Thunder (November 5th 2021)

This name and logo is so metal I fucking love it. Watiti directing, Natalie Portman back and playing Lady Thor, Tessa Thompson back, and of course the last of the trinity Chris Hemsworth BACK. This has got to be my number one most anticipated project of phase four. Feige said that it’s going to be “big” and I don’t doubt him as Love and Thunder is the film wrapping up Phase Four. The plot is underwraps but I think maybe it could be based around the Midland Serpent because that was thrown around as a plot for Infinity War, and I think also we’ll see the comic accurate Lady Thor where Jane Foster is battling cancer but everytime she turns into Thor she is healed but the longer she stays in that phase the worse her cancer becomes when she turns back (Jesus that’s really dark now that I am typing it). Either way Ragnarok was awesome and I bet this will be even better and I presume have huge stakes to wrap up Phase Four.

Other Announced Projects

Although they do not have dates films for Blade and The Fantastic Four have been announced and at D23 a Black Panther sequel and streaming series for She Hulk, Ms. Marvel (cast Naomi Scott) and Moon Knight have been announced. I presume we get one of the first two films plus Black Panther and GOTG3 in 2022 along with one streaming show. I plan on actually doing a blog with a dream casting for F4 soon so be on the lookout for that. What a time to be a Marvel fan!

Richard Madden Casted In Marvel’s The Eternals

https://cdn.images.express.co.uk/img/dynamic/36/750×445/1124305.jpg

OHHHHHHHHHH YEAH. VICTORY. SWEET VICTORY. As you know if you have been reading this blog consistently, I love Richard Madden. Freaking love the guy. Robb Stark is forever the boy and The Bodyguard is fire as well. I have essentially been gushing over Madden to get any major role that has been being rumored (please see my Batman and James Bond casting blogs), and now he has got one. My boy Madden is allegedly going to sign on to play Ikaris in Marvel Studios upcoming flick, The Eternals. Honestly, my hype for the next chapter of Marvel hasn’t been that high. I mean it’s just so damn hard to follow up the Infinity Saga that just went on for the last eleven years, and lets not pretend it is all gonna be the same, because it won’t and that’s okay. However, adding Richard Madden to the mix, now THAT can get your boy hyped up. I’ll probably like this movie no matter what now. Like they could totally botch this and I’m just going to be happy seeing Madden starring in the movie.

Now, for what this means for other possible movie ventures. I think this essentially takes him completely out of the discussion for Matt Reeves Batman movie (going to go with Armie Hammer as my guess to take the role). The Eternals is slated for 2020 and Batman 2021, you can’t be in two franchises at once, never mind playing two superheroes for rival studios (even if MCU vs DCEU is like The Globetrotters vs The Generals). And I presume Madden taking this role means he isn’t confident about landing 007 either. He’s been one of the top contenders for the role, and the first movie wouldn’t come out until 2024-2025 ish so I mean it’s possible but if we presume Eternals is a standard Marvel 3 or 5 picture deal, then Madden would be booked pretty tight, so it’s possible but I think that means Elba or Hiddleston is more where Bond will be going.

Anyway, Madden. Marvel. BOOM. I am GASSED UP.

Avengers: Endgame, A Love Letter.

https://static.t13.cl/images/sizes/480×267/1557614958-1557004975-avengers-endgame-1200-1200-675-675-crop-000000-1.jpg

Okay. Finally. I am now ready to talk about Avengers: Endgame. It’s been two weeks since the thrilling conclusion to the Infinity Saga premiered, and to be honest, I haven’t gone a day without thinking about it. There was a lot of question going in, would The Russo Brothers, Kevin Feige, and everyone at Marvel Studios be able to hit the insanely small bullseye that they needed to hit to match the expectations that fans had going in, and ladies and gentlemen boy did they do that and so much more. It was amazing. Truly better than I thought it could have been. I laughed, I screamed, I cried and by the end of the movie, I had closure. It truly was a 3 hour and 1 minute masterpiece from the Russo Brothers. So in this blog, I want to recap and review everything that happened in the movie and then at the end I’m gonna give my review and send my farewells to this chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that essentially raised me as a kid. So here is your FINAL SPOILER WARNING!!! And let’s begin!

First off the cold open: We opened up with the death of Hawkeye’s family (they were victims of Thanos’ snap)… OH MY GOD. This gave the theater their first gasp moment of the night. Granted, I think everyone knew it was coming, but still… that shit was fucking DARK. It really set the mood for the film and gave us a great look at how normal families were actually affected by the snap as well. Also by the way HUGE shoutout to Jermey Renner, this was by far his best performance in the MCU to date. His range in this film was incredible and he brought a pretty bland character in other movies to be one of my favorite characters in the film.

After the cold open we are taken to Tony and Nebula being all buddy buddy playing a game of paper football in space after getting off of Titan after the events of Infinity War. I loved this scene. It was the right type of comedy for the movie (they did have some cringey jokes later) it wasn’t too over the top or anything and showed the situation for what it was. Quick note here they both STUNK at paper football, I could kill both of them.

Next we get Tony’s video message to Pepper. This was the first (of many) tear jerker scenes of the movie for me. Even though we saw it in the trailer, it just really hits. Maybe it’s because of how much we have grown to love and care about Tony and Pepper together, or maybe because Robert Downey Jr. absolutely killed it, either way it was a fantastic moment and definitely got some onions cutting in that theater pretty early on.

Captain Marvel then comes and saves their asses and single handedly carries a goddamn space ship through the galaxy back to earth which I thought was cool but also a little quick. I fully expected to see a little more of Carol talking to the Avengers at HQ being filled in, but I guess the post credit scene from Captain Marvel essentially is supposed to show us that she’s there and they’ve gotten her up to speed. Honestly, I wish we got to see a little more of her arrival to HQ just because I am a huge sucker for those characters meeting and breaking it down to the new character scenes.

Anyway Tony, Nebula, and Carol arrive at HQ and Tony (super skinny by the way, essentially starved from being trapped in space for a month) stumbles off of the plane barely being able to walk, and the first thing he says is “I lost the kid.” Yup that’ll do it for the tears and goosebumps. This scene destroyed me. I love Iron Man and Spidey’s realtionship and seeing Tony breaking down about losing him absolutely hit hard for me. Continuing on from that, they really doubled down on the emotional scenes with Tony and Cap fighting in Avengers HQ. It was almost uncomfortable in a good way watching them go at it and an extremely ill Tony collapsing to the floor into unconscious. It all felt just so real, absolute goosebumps.

After this we got the Avengers going into space to fight Thanos again. I honestly was confused why the plot was moving so fast and thought they HAD to go get their asses kicked in this scene. I thought we were gonna lose an Avenger or two also, but they went in there, learned Thanos destroyed the stones, and then killed him. Easy peasy except for the whole half of life still is dead from last movie.

Then we get the “Five Years Later” card and the next part of the movie begins. Life is essentially miserable. People are all dead. Cap is leading a support group. Black Widow is managing the Avengers. Tony Hulk and Thor are all MIA and Captain Marvel tells the gang she has to go deal with space stuff and they won’t see her for awhile (essentially the directors way of making this movie focus on the original Avengers). It’s in this part we find out Hawkeye has been murdering people in cold blood to avenge his family by taking out all the bad souls that survived the snap. Black Widow goes to Japan, finds him and tells him they need him to come home. Also at this time a rat accidentally wanders into Ant-Man’s van (he’s been stuck in the quantum realm since Ant-Man and The Wasp) and accidentally opens the portal for him to come back essentially kickstarting the real plot of the movie.

Ant-Man comes back, confused as shit. It’s been five years but to him it only felt like five hours. We get a great scene of Paul Rudd essentially just running around trying to figure out what the fuck happened and reuniting with his daughter who is now a lot older. Ant-Man then goes to NY and is all like “time is weird right?” and tells the Avengers what happened giving them the idea that maybe they can time travel to fix this whole thing, and BOOM HERE WE GO!

The Avengers go to try and recruit Tony back to help them fix things but guess what? HE’S A DAD! And his daughter is freaking adorable! Tony tells them it’s way too dangerous and he can’t risk losing what he has now and so they instead to turn to Bruce Banner… WHO IS NOW PROFESSOR HULK. This was weird. I like professor hulk but it just freaked me out for some reason hearing Mark Ruffalo’s voice come out of a fully clothed Hulk. However this does give us the funniest scene in the movie where Hulk takes pictures with fans and then the kids don’t want a picture with Ant-Man.

Meanwhile, at the Stark residence Tony can’t stop thinking about time travel now because as he puts it “I can’t rest yet” and gives it his best go to discover how it works. This leads to one of my favorite moments in the movie when Tony figures the whole thing out and falls back into his chair and let’s out a surprised “SHIT!” To which his adorable daughter overhears and says back to him laughing.

The Avengers try the whole time travel thing without Tony. Rhodey asks why they can’t just go kill baby Thanos and Hulk explains time travel doesn’t work like that. Instead of the butterfly effect that most movies depict, the rules here are that if you go to the past, the past becomes your present, the future becomes your past and any time that passes and anything you do to change how things go branch off into parallel timelines. So they have to go in, retrieve all the infinity stones, bring them back to their present, and then use them to bring everyone back. I personally really liked these rules for time travel because they made everything much harder than just going back to prevent Infinity War from ever happening, which I think would have been a cheap move.

Tony eventually shows back up at Avengers HQ and brings Steve his shield. This scene gave me MEGA goosebumps. Seeing Tony give back the shield to Cap that he left after Civil War when he decided to not be an Avenger or Captain America anymore was crazy. He officially became Captain America again in this moment and it was beautiful.

Next up we get Rocket and Hulk going to find Thor, who has now through his grief became an extremely overweight alcoholic. .Which I honestly thought was going to be for a one scene thing then he would get zapped by lightning and be him again, but no Marvel really chose to make Thor fat for the whole movie. This scene was super surprising but also pretty funny too. We get to see Korg and Meek again who I absolutely love as they play Fortnite in Thor’s house dressed like slobs. Rocket convinces Thor to come with them and they head back to HQ where the gang is told they only have enough Pym particles for two trips, one to the past and one back. They then split up into three groups to go get the stones. Tony, Steve, Bruce, and Scott will go to New York during Avengers 1 to go get the space, mind, and time stones. Clint, Nat, Nebula, and Rhodey will go to Space during the Guardians movie to go to Vormir and Morag for the space and soul stones, and Thor and Rocket go to Asgard during Thor The Dark World for the reality stone.

This is where the movie really got going for me, the Time Heist. We essentially have four different groups in four different places (space group is split into two mini groups) all trying to collect stones and bring them all back to the present to undo the snap. Honestly, the breakup of the movie made it feel so much shorter. It’s like we got the intro hour, the time heist hour, and the finale fight hour. I loved it.

First off, New York: Tony, Steve, Bruce, and Scott arrive. They decide Bruce will go for the time stone at the septum sanctorum and the rest of them will work on the space and mind stones at the battle of New York. The cool part about this was that we got to see the battle of New York unfold again right in front of our eyes, and being a huge Avengers 1 homer, I loved every second of it. I absolutely died laughing when Professor Hulk had to pretend to smash and act like original Hulk, and Tony giving us some great fan service making fun of Cap’s costume in the movie was fantastic. Anyway, Steve Tony and Scott sneak into Stark tower right at the moment of the classic scene of all the Avengers capturing Loki when Loki says “I’ll have that drink now.” This whole time heist was honestly just one huge fan service and honestly I loved it. Scott telling Cap his ass was “America’s Ass” had the whole theater dying laughing.

The three of them then get into a bunch of shenanigans retrieving the stones. Cap goes into the elevator with all the SHIELD (Hydra) agents from Winter Soldier recreating the iconic elevator ride, but instead of fighting he takes the mind stone by trolling them and whispering heil Hydra. Tony gets the tesseract but then loses it to Loki who uses it to escape (setting up his TV show), and that causes Cap to have to fight himself from the past who thinks he is Loki (MAJOR fan service). Across town Bruce eventually gets the Ancient One to give him the time stone but she makes him promise to return all the stones to where they got them from once they are done. The four meet up and Tony says he lost the tesseract, essentially screwing up the whole plan but then they figure they can go back to 1970 with their last particle, and get the space stone and more particles from SHIELD base.

This scene in the 70’s hit us with all the feels as not only does Cap see Peggy again but Tony gets to have a talk with his dad about being a father. This was so freaking emotional. Waterworks were flowing here too. I think it was in this moment I realized Tony was going to die based upon how this conversation went with his dad.

Meanwhile, as this is happening, Thor and Rocket are in Asgard and Thor sees both Jane Foster and his mom for the first time in years. Also I would have never guessed Thor The Dark world would have ever been brought up again by Marvel… but here we are.

Thor’s conversation with his mom was heartwarming and amazing. She really brings the life back into him, and for the first time, although he may not look it, it feels that we actually get Thor back. Oh and when Mjolnir flew into his hands I freaked out. HE’S STILL WORTHY!

During this time we get Nebula and Rhodey who get the space stone relatively easy, however 2014 Thanos figures out something is happening since old Nebula and new Nebula’s mainframes are hooked up (I don’t get it but fuck it movies man) and although Rhodey gets back with the stone, Nebula gets captured by Thanos who sends old Nebula who is still evil at this time to go to the present to bring his ship to the present to end things once and for all.

Over on Vormir Clint and Nat find out about the whole soul for a soul thing to get the soul stone and boy was this emotional. Essentially they both want to sacrifice themselves for the stone and have a fight scene where they are both trying to die. All signs look like Hawkeye will die, but then Black Widow takes the fall, saving herself for humanity and wiping out all the red in her ledger finally.

They eventually all return to the present and Clint informs the rest of the Avengers that she didn’t make it back. Tony builds an Iron Gauntlet (how fucking cool is that) and Hulk puts it on and snaps all the people back into existence who died. This is all fine and dandy until Nebula brings Thanos and his army into the present and they bomb the shit out of Avengers HQ. Like Jesus this place is DESTROYED. Putting this right in the middle of the oh my god we saved the day moment was crazy and so unsettling and I loved it so much.

Anyway, Thor, Cap, and Iron Man go to fight Thanos. Thor dual wielding his hammers, Cap with his shield, and Tony in full armor. They get overwhelmed by his forces and Thor looks like he’s about to bite the dust when……………..

MJOLNIR FLIES INTO CAPTAIN AMERICA’S HANDS OH MY FUCKING GOD. WHAT A MOMENT. THE THEATER GOES NUTS. HE IS WORTHY OF MJOLNIR!!!!! Thor lets out a “I KNEW IT” And Cap beats the brakes off of that purple faced douchebag Thanos. WHAT A MOMENT! From here until the end of the movie I was in Nirvana. I was screaming, I was cheering, I was crying. IT. WAS. BEAUTIFUL.

Eventually though Thanos overwhelms Cap and breaks his shield in half. The gasps. I think everyone thought this might be it for Cap and maybe he’ll make the sacrifice play as everyone is beaten up pretty badly.

Captain America then stands up, facing the entire army of Thanos all by himself, knowing he is greatly out numbered and has no chance. He tightens his shield and looks out at the army when suddenly… “Steve… On your left.” And a portal starts to arise from the left side of Captain America where Falcon, Black Panther, Bucky, Okoye, Groot, Scarlet Witch and the ENTIRE WAKANDAN ARMY all come out of it. From there dozens of other portals start opening up all on the left and right of Captain America and every good guy character we have ever scene from every movie start to pour out of them. Ending with the last portal letting out Star Lord, Drax, Mantis, Doctor Strange and Spider-Man, all who vanished on Titan…. The Avengers theme song starts playing as they all line up together ready to all fight side by side to save the fate of the universe once and for all. Steve Rogers screams “AVENGERS…” We get a look at all the heroes lined up together with one goal for one last time and then Mjolnir flies into Captain America’s hands and we here the line we have waited eleven fucking years to hear… “Assemble.” At this point I lost it. I cheered and cried. I literally grabbed my friends next to me holding on for dear life. It was the most beautiful moment in cinematic history and honestly quite possibly the greatest moment of my life. I’m honestly starting to tear up just thinking about it. WHAT A MOMENT GOD DAMN!

The Avengers then charge at Thanos’ army and we get a hell of a battle scene. This is my favorite battle in MCU history no contest, honestly my favorite battle in cinematic history too. There are just so many great moments. We get Pepper in the Rescue armor, Tony and Peter reuniting and Tony giving him a huge hug (callback to Spider-Man Homecoming when he won’t hug him “we’re not there yet”), Quill and Gamora’s reunion where she doesn’t know him because she’s 2014 Gamora was super funny, Cap and Thor using the shield and the hammers for some fucking crazy moves on the bad guys. The all female fight scene. God damn there were so many great moments.

Then we get Scarlett Witch on Thanos. I loved this scene. The dialogue is too perfect. “You took everything from me.” “I don’t even know who you are.” “You will.” PERFECT. Literal goosebumps again just thinking about it. She starts rocking his shit and he calls in for backup from his ships and they start blowing the place to pieces, and all hope is lost when suddenly Captain Marvel shows up (WAY TO BE ON TIME CAROL, NOT LIKE WE COULD HAVE USED YOU ALL DAMN MOVIE) and blows the ships to smithereens.

Eventually Thanos gets the gauntlet again. I was freaked. He puts it on and the power rushes through him. Captain Marvel tries to stop him but he power stone punches her into the next state. And then, we get it. Doctor Strange looks at Tony and simply just holds up a one with his fingers, as in this is the 1 in 14,000,605 outcomes where they can win. They are, IN. THE. ENDGAME. Tony goes to fight Thanos and Thanos pushes him off, and he looks down at Stark and says “I am inevitable.” And snaps his fingers… except nothing happens. Thanos is confused, and then we see Tony Stark rise up from the ground with all six infinity stones on his own gauntlet around his hand, and he says the line that started it all, “And I. Am. Iron Man.” and snaps his fingers destroying Thanos’ entire army, and sacrificing himself in the process. HOLY GOOSEBUMPS. It still chokes me up two weeks later.

Tony’s death broke out the tears again, we get Spidey coming over to him trying to revive him shaking him saying “Mr. Stark, Mr. Stark we won.” And Pepper saying her goodbyes to her husband while Rhodey and Cap are behind her crying. What a moment.

We then get this voiceover speech from Tony Stark as a message to his friends and family that he had recorded (courtesy of @13lijah on instagram):

What a speech. This playing over the world reuniting with loved ones and Tony’s funeral really got me. Also seeing all the characters watch over as his body floated into the ocean made me break down crying, that was beautiful.

We see Thor join the Guardians officially, getting ready to look for Gamora, essentially setting up GOTG3. I am so stoked for that movie, I think he fits perfectly.

After this Steve is supposed to bring back the stones to everywhere they got them from and then they’ll bring him back, except he doesn’t come back, and instead they see an old man sitting by the lake. It’s old man Captain America. He gives his shield to Falcon appointing him the new Captain America. I know a lot of people were hoping it would be Bucky but I think with Bucky’s whole past and his new title as the White Wolf, giving it to Sam made more sense. They then ask where he went when he didn’t come back, and we cut to the final scene of the movie, Steve back in the 40’s in a house, finally getting that dance with Peggy Carter. THE END. GOOSEBUMPS!

So that’s it! That’s my Avengers Endgame recap. I’d give a review but I essentially did so as I broke it down. 10/10 loved it. It’s in my top 3 Marvel movies ever and honestly as of now is sitting at number one. So instead of doing a review to end this thing I just wanna give my two cents about what this movie and Marvel mean to me.

Growing up, I always wanted to be special. I mean who doesn’t? Everyone wanted their life to feel like it had meaning, that they weren’t just another person among the crowd. When I was eight years old, I went with my friends Colby, Jared and Patrick to see the first Iron Man in theaters. It’s safe to say it changed my life. For two hours I watched as Tony Stark went from a conceited billionaire to using his abilities to save people and make the world a better place. It’s safe to say I saw him as a role model, I learned lessons from wat he did, and that I left that theater that night feeling inspired. That film showed me what it meant to be special. Over the years, no matter what happened in my life, through all the ups and downs of childhood, one thing stayed constant for me, going to see Marvel movies with Colby, Patrick, and Jared. In July 2011, I walked into the theater to see Captain America: The First Avenger, a film starring fellow Massachusetts native Chris Evans, who grew up in the town over from me. It was watching this movie, seeing someone who came from the same background and place like me achieve such great things, that first inspired me to want to become an actor when I grew up. As the years passed and I got older and middle school began, life was a rollercoaster. There were times when I felt sad, lonely, or broken hearted and got through these hard times by losing myself in the escapism of Marvel movies, letting my emotions go and watching my heroes save the world together. Through high school I would force my friends and family members to watch countless MCU movies with me, explaining to them the back stories and intricate plot points as the films moved along. Hell I even used to use Captain America’s speech before the Battle Of Sokovia as hype up material before a big test or a football game. And still, every single opening night Colby, Patrick, Jared, and I would all meet up at the local IMAX theater to watch the newest installment in our favorite movie franchise. This fall I went off to college. I was away from my friends and family for the first time, but when Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame came out, the Movie Boys (as we dubbed ourselves) made the journey home, whether it was a 40 minute car ride, or a full day plane trip with cancelations and unexpected layovers in Minnesota, to celebrate these new films together…. I guess what I am trying to say is that Marvel has done a lot for me over the years. It’s drawn me closer to my friends, taught me countless life lessons growing up, inspired me to follow my dreams, make me realize what I want to do with my life, and even get me through some really hard times. I honestly can’t thank the cast, crew, producers, studio heads, and the great Kevin Feige enough for everything these movies have given my friends and I over the years, it’s truly greater than words. I just want to say that sometimes, although it sounds silly, movies can be more than movies. They can do so much for us and it’s just freakin incredible that that’s possible. Anyway I’m starting to ramble, but again, to everyone involved in making these twenty two amazing movies over the past eleven years: it’s been a ride, thank you for everything, I love you 3000.

Where Does Marvel Go From Here?

THIS BLOG HAS SPOILERS FOR AVENGERS: ENDGAME

Okay, so after Avengers: Endgame (my super mega blog on it is still coming soon, I decided to wait until after the “spoiler period” that the Russo brothers put for the first two weekends after the movie), many people are asking the question, what now? It’s a good question. Essentially we’re without most of our original heroes that built this studio over the last eleven years, and the entire infinity stone story arc (being dubbed “The Infinity Saga”) is now bookended. This may seem like a sad time to be a Marvel fan, however, there is A LOT to look forward to. Phase four is beginning this July so today I am gonna breakdown what we know is coming next, and some possibilities of what we might see in the future.

Spider-Man Far From Home (2019)

https://cnet3.cbsistatic.com/img/qWzHiuMZ26OW38BEed06j7SGI1I=/2019/03/26/d50717a6-5f2d-418e-9fa4-caaf7c6faea5/spider-man-far-from-home-og-size-image.jpg

Phase four will start off in July with everyone’s favorite neighborhood Spider-Man. Far From Home, the sequel to 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, will feature Tom Holland swinging back into action as Peter Parker, as he goes on summer vacation with his friends MJ Ned, Betty, and Flash in Europe, hoping to take his mind off of the hero gig and the tragic death of mentor Tony Stark. However, after elemental creatures show up all over Europe, Peter’s summer vacation is hijacked when he is recruited by Nick Fury to team up with new found “hero” Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) to stop them. Honestly, I think this is a perfect way to start Phase Four. It reminds me of how we followed Tony Stark dealing with PTSD after Avengers (hopefully this movie will be done better). I think it will be awesome watching Peter have to become a hero in his on right and not just Iron Man’s prodigy anymore, and dealing with low scale villains like the Elementals and Mysterio after all the world dooming movies with Thanos will be a nice change of pace for the MCU.

Black Widow (2020)

https://www.technobuffalo.com/sites/technobuffalo.com/files/styles/large/public/wp/2015/07/black-widow.jpg?itok=EeKri738

I know, this is confusing. First off, not to state the obvious but Natasha Romanov is dead. And secondly, doesn’t this seem a little late? We really finalized the original Avenger storyline after Endgame and everything felt right. No doubt we all wanted a Black Widow movie back in Phase 2 and Phase 3 (it’s absolutely absurd that we never got one especially with ScarJo starring), but now it just seems, dare I say it, forced? However, the premise sounds fucking awesome. The movie will be a prequel taking place in Black Widow’s dark past as an assassin and will most likely be the MCU’s first R rated film. So we’re gonna get a dark, gritty, spy thriller filled with espionage with one of the most complex characters Marvel has ever given us. It’s gonna be amazing. I just wish we got it six to seven years ago.

The Eternals (2020)

https://img.cinemablend.com/filter:scale/quill/8/7/3/e/8/c/873e8cf127644823f57f035be78298dc8f0ec528.jpg?mw=600

This is going to be a pretty obscure concept for a Marvel movie. If you don’t know who the Eternals are, don’t worry you are absolutely not alone. However, like the Guardians Of The Galaxy before them, you better get to know them because they are going to be major players in the next phase of The MCU. The Eternals are a group of Super humans who were created by the celestials (we’ve met Ego The Celestial in GOTG 2) and the Eternals are essentially semi immortal beings with enhanced superpower abilities. There are a lot of forms of the team so Marvel has a lot of characters to choose from just like they did with The Guardians. Angelina Jolie and Kumail Nanjiani is rumored to also be starring. Honestly nobody knows much about it but it should be interesting at worst, and the next Guardians Of The Galaxy at best.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 (TBD)

https://hips.hearstapps.com/digitalspyuk.cdnds.net/17/48/1511974619-guardians.jpg

Speaking of The Guardians, GOTG 3 is also confirmed happening for Phase Four as well! Director James Gunn has officially been rehired by Disney (thank the lord) after being dismissed from the project after some concerning old tweets surfaced last July. GOTG 3 has a lot of fun things they can do in the conclusion to the groups trilogy. FIrst off, from the end of Avengers: Endgame we learned that one, Thor is joining the team, and two, 2014 Gamora is somewhere out there in the Galaxy. This in itself is a super juicy plot, but to add to this, if you remember from the post credit scene in GOTG2, Adam Warlock is joining the party in some form too. This movie has me the most excited so far in Phase Four.

All But Confirmed Projects

Many other projects are essentially all but confirmed to be happening in Phase Four too. These include Black Panther 2, Doctor Strange 2 (possibly introducing Namor), Captain Marvel 2, Ant-Man 3 and a Shang Chi film. Then eventually after that we will get a third installment of Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and Captain Marvel in Phase 5. I’m presuming all of these will be given release dates and confirmations by Comic-Con or The D23 Expo this summer.

Other Projects We Could See

There are a lot of rumors flying around about other possible projects we might see. Disney of course just bought the rights to 20th Century Fox giving them full control of all of the X-Men characters and The Fantastic Four. Could we see a Fantastic Four movie or maybe some solo X-Men hero flicks? Very possibly. However, despite how excited we are for these projects with all the sequels currently on tap, don’t expect Disney to try to push these heroes right away. But if I were to bank on one Fox property maybe making it’s debut sooner rather than later, I would put my money on The Fantastic Four.

So that’s my take on Phase Four at the moment. I really think although the losses of the original characters is gonna blow, that this truly is not a falling off point for Marvel Studios. There are so many great storylines, villains, and heroes we can follow from here (thinking about blogging about who the next big bad should be later this week), and with the new Spider-Man trailer introducing the multiverse, truly nothing is off limits from here on out. Stay tuned for my Avengers: Endgame super mega blog coming soon!

Casting The Next James Bond

https://peopledotcom.files.wordpress.com/2017/12/daniel-craig-james-bond.jpg

Okay, so I had a lot of fun doing the Batman casting many weeks ago and I decided I wanted to give it another go. Obviously there were some great characters to choose from (Wolverine, The Fantastic Four, etc.) but I decided to try my hand at 007 himself, James Bond. So just a refresher, Daniel Craig is currently doing his last ever Bond movie and after it premieres, the search for the new Bond will be in full swing. There have been many rumors floating around Hollywood that a range of actors have been considered for the role so I decided to breakdown these rumors and give you all my opinions on which of these possible successors I would like to see in the future.

Idris Elba

People Magazine’s 2018 sexiest man alive has been linked to the role for a long time now, and despite declining he has interest every report in Hollywood says otherwise. If you search next James Bond anywhere on the internet Elba comes up. Honestly he would make an amazing James Bond, as he has everything. The sophisticated look, the classy British accent, the total badass action skillset, and the dude can flat out act. The only problem with Elba is his age and if he can hold the role long enough to have a franchise run through him for the next 6-10 years as he’d be probably 51 by the time his first film as Bond would premiere.

Richard Madden

Okay, here comes the time in every casting blog where I get to gush about how much I want Richard Madden to get this role. I love Madden. He’s one of my favorite actors and Robb Stark was one of my favorite TV Show characters ever. He can play the badass action star, but Madden also has shown over and over again he is great with romance too and everyone knows there’s a lot of that in a Bond movie. He’s got the look as well and presuming that this movie comes out in five years in 2024, Madden will be 32 years old, the perfect age to start a franchise around. Not convinced yet? Did I mention that he’s a HUGE James Bond fan! Maybe it’s my blind loyalty to House Stark, or maybe I am a genius but I really want this to happen. Dear god please let this guy get this or Batman.

Tom Hiddleston

https://the-hollywood-gossip-res.cloudinary.com/iu/s–3oW5L-Bb–/t_full/cs_srgb,f_auto,fl_strip_profile.lossy,q_auto:420/v1466070760/tom-hiddleston-in-a-tux.jpg

Next up on the rumor list is Tom Hiddleston. Ten years ago Hiddleston was casted as Loki for the Thor trilogy and was referred to as a “nobody” when being compared to Shia LaBeouf. Now he’s one of the most sought after actors in Hollywood, and considering every goddamn British actor in Hollywood has been mixed up in the Bond rumors, it’s no doubt he is too. Hiddleston has played a spy before whether that’s a pro or a con for you (pro for me, experience), so depending on his enjoyment maybe he’d want another go. He’s got some of the best acting chops out there, as seen in his illustrious tenure as Loki in the Thor/Avenger franchise, and he’s one of the best overall acting talents available. However already being attached to a major franchise (Loki series is coming soon to Disney + when it launches in November) could damage his chances of taking the role.

Henry Cavill

https://media.vanityfair.com/photos/54caaa74b8f23e3a0314d4d6/master/w_768,c_limit/image.jpg

This feels like the perfect storm. With rumors of Cavill not coming back to play Superman anymore and after his amazing performance as an evil secret agent in Mission Impossible: Fallout, Henry Cavill is going to be a hot commodity, and James Bond just makes so much sense. He’s huge, charming, British, has the acting skills, and just looks like he could be 007. It feels like the stars might be aligning for this if Cavill gets out of his deal for Superman, so look out for that over the next few months. Honestly, I would rather keep Cavill as Superman just because I think the DCEU can be saved and we all deserve a Man Of Steel 2 (maybe just call it Superman or something instead though so it feels fresh), and I think Cavill is the best actor available for Superman, but if things go AWOL, 007 may be calling his name.

Nicholas Hoult

https://gq-images.condecdn.net/image/gno8xX5ob5v/crop/810/f/Nicholas-Hoult-GQ-25May16_rex_b.jpg

Hoult isn’t anyones front runner to land the role, but there have been rumors going around about him with the role and although he wouldn’t be my top choice, I honestly would be fine with him as Bond. Hoult has experience being in a major movie franchise which is always a plus, and he does have a good group of fans. He may be young, and even too polished looking for Bond, but we’re talking five years down the road and I think a younger Bond would be an interesting turn for the franchise after Craig. Hoult definitely can portray the playboy part of the role but I the badass secret agent action hero part may take some work to get there.

Cillian Murphy

https://www.sundaypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/13/2017/07/25682234.jpg

Okay, first thing is first: Cillian Murphy is a fantastic actor. He’s ridiculous. In everything from Peaky Blinders to Batman to 28 Days Later I have genuinely enjoyed him in everything I have seen him in. I think he’s destined to do some huge projects in the near future. That being said, maybe it’s because he has played a lot of iconic roles, but I can’t see him as Bond. I don’t know why. I know he’s a lot of peoples front runner right now, but I just can’t see it. That being said, if Murphy gets the role I will not be upset. He’s one of the best actors out there and I presume I will very much like his movie. I just don’t think he’s at the top of my list personally.

Tom Hardy

http://www3.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Tom+Hardy+9th+Annual+VES+Awards+Red+Carpet+8x3ljZ-p388l.jpg

Arguably the greatest actor of his age group, Tom Hardy is a bonafide stud. I mean talk about a track record: Dunkirk, to Dark Knight Rises, Inception, Locke, Mad Max, and most recently Venom. Hardy makes HITS. He easily could carry the franchise and play the character. The only problem, it seems like he isn’t super interested. He has Mad Max and Venom right now, and besides that he also does a lot of independent work. It’s hard to think Hardy would want to add the extensive Bond schedule to all that, but who knows.

Conclusion

Overall, I think no matter what we can’t go wrong with these bonds. But I do have to make my power rankings of who I want to see as the next James Bond, so here it is, my official James Bond dream casting power rankings:

  1. Richard Madden
  2. Idris Elba
  3. Tom Hiddleston
  4. Henry Cavill
  5. Tom Hardy
  6. Nicholas Hoult
  7. Cillian Murphy

Battle Of Winterfell Review

https://www.rollingstone.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/courtesy-of-hbo-5-knight-king.jpg?crop=900:600&width=440

FIRST THINGS FIRST THIS BLOG CONTAINS MAJOR GAME OF THRONES SPOILERS FOR SEASON 8 EPISODE 3. STOP READING NOW IF YOU DON’T WANT SPOILERS. Anyway, this weekend we got probably the best weekend of content, like, ever. Avengers Endgame, and The Battle Of Winterfell in Game Of Thrones. It was a doozy. I am currently writing my Avengers Endgame Recap right now but I have so much to say and digest about it that it’s gonna be a mega blog so expect that later this week around Thursday-Friday. But anyway, I decided I want to do a quick recap and review on the Battle Of Winterfell since it seems like the internet is pretty divided upon it. Essentially what the main problem is is that 1. People were expecting more stakes and more big time deaths in the battle, where we essentially lost no main protagonists besides Jorah, Theon, and Melisandre, Melisandre who didn’t even die in battle. To this I say, yeah I kind of agree to be honest. Like in most shows and movies we can’t expect a crazy twist or a main protagonist to be killed off in every fight, but this is Thrones, and we’ve set a certain precedent that in Thrones shit hits the fan and people die, a lot, especially when you least expect it. Now don’t get me wrong I am super glad we get Arya, Sansa, Jon, Dany, Sam, Bran, Tyrion, Breanne, Tortmund, Jaimie, Grey Worm and everyone else to all get to take on Cersei, but I wish we saw some crazy twist or deaths that would have really upped the stakes. That being said though Theon’s death was insanely moving and Jorah’s as well. Also, not a main character but Lyanna Mormont killing a giant while dying was BAD. ASS. RIP the little beast. Moving on though, the second gripe people had with the show was that it was blurry and too dark. Uhhhh get a better TV morons. It’s pixelated because your TV can’t handle the color scheme… and yeah it’s dark the goddamn battle is at night. This was a stupid gripe by people and it has zero effect on what I watched. The one thing though that bothered me that nobody seems to be talking about is that the Night King conflict arc seemed a little anti climactic. He was built up as this all time bad guy and we don’t even get to find out any real details on his motives or any backstory on him / who he was. It just felt like all the time building up him and the army of the dead was for nothing because we never get to see his character display anything nor do we learn anything about him, except creepy zombie who wants to kill humans. I really liked the way he died (Arya is such a badass), but I wish we got to learn more about him for all the build up. The battle itself was crazy though, it really felt like our heroes were outnumbered and outmatched for 90% of the episode. That’s a good thing because when Arya goes all Michael Jordan mid air hand change with her knife, in that moment we all thought she was going to die, not save the day. Overall, I thought the episode was good. Not great, but good. Maybe all the fan theories we have all been reading for a year and a half had us overthinking things and got us expecting a lot more twists than what we actually got, but that’s the problem with having such a small bullseye to please fans, sometimes you don’t hit it perfectly. However, this wasn’t the final battle because if you don’t remember, CERSEI JUST BOUGHT A FREAKING HUGE ARMY FROM ESOS!!! This season and series finale are just getting started and we have three more episodes to wrap it all up, where I am sure there will be all the twists we are all craving. So whether you liked it or didn’t, I am sure you will get your fill over the next three weekends.

Top Summer Releases

It is finally here. Starting this weekend it is: Summer. Movie. Season. This summer movie season (late April to early September) is jam packed with some huge surefire box office hits, and I am back this week to get you ready for it. Now, I know my last blog got taken down for “copyright” reasons (soft) so this week I sadly will not be including any trailer clips for the movies, but instead just the posters and you can look up the footage on YouTube. Anyway, here is my top 15 most anticipated movies of the summer movie season 2019!

15. Rocketman (May 31st)

Based on the life story of Sir Elton John, Rocketman follows Elton’s rising career and how he made his big breakthrough into the music industry. The film stars Taron Egerton, star of the Kingsmen franchise, and last years Robin Hood where he played the title character. Honestly, I think this movie will be wicked fun. Just like Bohemian Rhapsody it will have some great music that will keep audiences invested and has a great lead actor to pull along the script, and like Malek did, Egerton will also be visually transforming for the role.

14. Godzilla King Of The Monsters (May 31st)

Double dipping on May 31st, with a movie on the exact other end of the spectrum, Godzilla. If you don’t know already, Warner Brothers is making a connected universe of monster movies, essentially yhe way marvel did with superheroes. The first movie was Kong Skull Island, then Godzilla is the second, all leading to a huge King Kong Godzilla team up movie (that honestly sounds like something out of a mad libs game). Honestly, I don’t know if I need to see King Kong and Godzilla fight in the future or whatever, but this movie looks extremely dark and gritty and with a 200 million dollar budget, should have some insane visuals. Not to mention a stellar cast starring the amazing Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things, Charles Dance from Game Of Thrones (Tywin Lanister), and Thomas Middleditch from Silicon Valley. I can’t garuntee this will blow you away plot wise but it should be good for a fun summer movie (plus Godzilla movies kill it in Asia so expect it to earn a sequel).

13. Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw (August 2nd)

It feels like we get a new Fast and Furious movie every goddamn summer. Universal just loves churning them out, because no matter how many times we shit on these movies and say how cheesy and similar they all are, guess what? We all go see them and throw millions of dollars into Universal’s pockets. Sure, these movies started out as mere drag racing movies about a group of misfit motor-heads looking for a family, and now they’re essentially The Avengers with Vin Diesel taking bullets off the chest while riding a Maserati across an arctic terrain while Ludacris shoots a RPG out of a helicopter at Russian spies (again, this sounds like the people at Universal play mad libs to create these scenes). But honestly, for as tired of a genre as this franchise might be, I think Hobbs and Shaw might be a breath of fresh air. It centers around two characters who are actually government assassins trying to stop a bad guy (a simple feasible plot for once), isn’t overcrowded with characters and has two stars in Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham who are not only badass but absolutely hilarious with one another on screen, and we get Idris Elba as the villain and he’s fucking awesome. I’m sure there will be some crazy car chases and vehicles doing absolutely absurd things in terrains they should not be driven on, because well, it’s still a fast and furious movie and for as much as I roast the movies, they have fans for a reason, but I think Hobbs and Shaw will be a fun surprise this summer.

12. X-Men: Dark Phoenix (June 7th)

X-Men Dark Phoenix looks, well, dark. It follows Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) as a dark force from within her consumes her and gives her unmeasurable power but also corrupts her. It’s then up to the X-Men to bring her back or stop her before she destroys the earth. I’m really torn on this movie. It’s the last pure Fox X-Men movie before Disney takes the rights back and recasts the entire cast to add them to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and although I’m excited to have higher quality X-Men movies from Disney, there were a lot of really good things to come out of Fox’s versions of the movies. For one, the cast. Professor X (James McAvoy) Magneto (Michael Fassbender) Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) and Quicksilver (Evan Peters) are a phenomenal cast (especially Peters as Quicksilver he is the best) and it stinks that we’re gonna be losing all of these A-Listers. However, for the movie itself I am super hyped. The trailers look AWESOME, the storyline looks dramatic with high stakes, and I think Fox is going to go all out with their last ever X-Men movie before they are owned by Disney. Expect major deaths and an ending that ties the franchise together.

11. Long Shot (May 3rd)

I love Seth Rogen. He’s just so freaking funny. Every movie he does hits for me. Superbad, This Is The End, Pineapple Express, Sausage Party, Neighbors, I love them all. This movie looks like no exception. The movie follows Rogen’s character Fred Flarsky who is a journalist, who runs into his old babysitter, accomplished politician Charlotte Field who is running for president. Field impulsively hires Fred to be her speechwriter for the campaign and the two hit it off, much to the regret of Field’s staff. The romantic comedy follows their journey on the campaign trail as Field runs for President and Fred tries to help her…. If that doesn’t sound like the RomCom of the year to you, you’re crazy. I feel like this movie is going to be awesome and just a great movie to see in the theaters, one of the few pure comedies coming out this summer.

10. Men In Black: International (June 14th)

Starting off my top ten is Men In Black: International. This movie essentially follows the usual Men In Black movie plot with aliens on earth and the agents have to contain them but not expose themselves to the world. Now I know people have mixed feelings about a Men In Black movie with a new cast but hear me out: First off, this is not a reboot. All movie franchises are expanding their universe, Star Wars, Marvel, Harry Potter, Fast and Furious, hell even Godzilla and King Kong. This is just another branch of the MIB universe that we all know and love. Second, Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson are GREAT together in Thor Ragnarok, which was a huge hit that essentially revived the almost flatlining Thor trilogy. And based on the trailers it seems the chemistry has carried over into MIB. I think this action-comedy should be fun for the whole family, and if the trailer is any indication, it should be filled with 2000’s pop jams.

9. Yesterday (June 28th)

The plot essentially is explained in the poster. Jack, a struggling songwriter, is the only person on the planet who remembers the Beatles after a worldwide blackout. The movie then follows his journey as he sings their songs all the way to the top of the charts. This is such a simple idea for a movie, yet so freaking brilliant. The trailer literally had me giddy. I can’t wait for this movie. Danny Boyle directing (Slumdog Millionaire director) is a bonus and shows that this will be more than just a slapstick comedy. It will presumably be filled with The Beatles biggest hits too which is worth the price of admission on it’s own. Like I said when talking about Long Shot, there aren’t many pure comedies coming out this summer, but the ones we are getting look awesome.

8. Pokémon: Detective Pikachu (May 10th)

For as absurd as some of the movies on this list are, this one HAS to take the cake. The plot of this movie is that a young man teams up with a talking Pikachu Pokémon that only he can understand, to uncover the mystery of his fathers disappearance by chasing down clues throughout Rhyme City. On top of that, Pikachu is voiced by none other than Ryan Reynolds. The weirdest thing though, is for how weird this movie sounds, is that from what we have seen in the trailer, it looks FUN. The visuals are dope (minus the occasional creepy too realistic Pokémon), Ryan Reynolds seems hilarious as a caffeine addicted, world class detective Pikachu, and the 80’s techno music fits right in to the movie. For as weird as it is I think it is gonna be a super heartfelt fun hilarious movie.

7. Aladdin (May 24th)

Okay, I am aware Will Smith’s genie looked like shit in the trailers, and nobody can replace Robin Williams as he did the role perfectly. The CGI will be better by the time of release though and sadly Mr. Williams is not with us anymore to reprise his role, so let’s stop bitching about one aspect of the movie and look at it as a whole. Disney has been killing these live action remakes and Aladdin should be no different. They have over 150 million dollars of budget to work with (estimated) and from what we’ve scene in the trailers, the sets look awesome. Presuming they follow the original movies plot whole heartedly this will be pretty hard to screw up. I think Disney will make a boatload of money off of this and we’re all gonna be pretty satisfied with what we see when we all go see this in theaters.

6. Spider-Man: Far From Home (July 5th)

The 23rd installment into Marvel’s Cinematic Universe will follow Peter Parker as he goes on summer vacation with his friends in Europe hoping for a chance to get away from the stresses of being Spider-Man and try to work on his blooming relationship with MJ. However, when trouble erupts throughout Europe, Nick Fury hijacks Peter’s summer vacation to have him fight these creatures alongside new hero Mysterio… Just based on the trailer alone, this movie is already better than Spider-Man: Homecoming. It looks so fun. We get more Zendaya as MJ which is a huge positive, get to see the return of characters like Happy, Ned, and Flash, and we get introduced to Jake Gyllenhal’s character Mysterio, who in the comics is a classic Spider-Man villain that uses Hollywood effects and illusions to do crime. In the trailers Mysterio is portrayed as a hero which is probably just for marketing since Sony and Marvel both got roasted for showing way too much in preparation for Spider-Man: Homecoming. Honestly I am personally super stoked for this movie and I love Tom Holland’s adaptation of Peter Parker and can’t wait to see where it goes in this movie.

5. IT: Chapter 2 (September 6th)

The premise is simple. It’s 27 years later and Pennywise is back to torment and kill the members of the Loser Club, who are now adults. The film stars Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, and Bill Hader, with Bill Skarsgard coming back to reprise his role as Pennywise. We haven’t seen really any footage from this end of summer horror blockbuster yet, but presumably it will drop in May/June or at the latest at Comic Con in July. The cast looks amazing, the first one was crazy, and it’s gonna be the last big movie of the summer. If that doesn’t sound awesome to you, I don’t know what does. Also by the way the “now I’m gonna have to kill this fucking clown” is still one of my favorite movie lines ever, please look it up.

4. The Lion King (July 19th)

It makes me dizzy thinking about how much money Disney is going to make this year. Between The Lion King, Aladdin, Avengers, Toy Story, Star Wars, and Captain Marvel this could be one of Disney’s biggest box office years ever. The Lion King was a clear choice to be in the top five. It’s the recreation of Disney’s most iconic movie, with Jon Faverau at the helm directing it (Jungle Book, Iron Man). The cast includes a plethera of A-Listers including Donald Glover, Beyonce, James Earl Jones, Seth Rogen, Keegan Michael-Key, Eric Andre, John Oliver, Billy Eichner and John Kani. All the original music with a live action touch. It’s gonna be freaking awesome. I expect this movie to easily soar to a billion dollars at the box office and possibly beyond.

3. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood (July 26th)

With arguably the greatest one two punch in Hollywood history, Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt star in legendary director Quentin Tarantino’s next film, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. The film is based around a TV Star and his stunt double going on an Odyssey in 1969 Los Angeles at the time of the Charles Manson murders. The movie also stars Margot Robbie who will reunite with DiCaprio for the first time since their unforgettable performance in The Wolf Of Wall Street (2013). Although the exact plot isn’t exactly clear, the footage looks AMAZING, it is being directed by one of the greatest directors to ever walk this planet, and stars three of Hollywood’s biggest stars. This movie is going to be good. There is no way it isn’t. If you don’t believe me watch the trailer.

2. Toy Story 4 (June 21st)

The theme of 2019 is endings. Many of the biggest film saga’s are coming to an end this year. That includes Toy Story. Toy Story 4 will be the last adventure we see Woody, Buzz, and the gang ever go on. Remember when everyone cried during Toy Story 3 and said it was the most emotional animated movie they had ever seen? Well bring tissues because according to Tom Hanks the ending of Toy Story 4 is so emotional that him and Tim Allen couldn’t even look at each other without crying when recording their final lines. Oh and he said the film will be “a historic event in cinema history.” So I have no idea what is going to happen but shit’s about to go down. And if that doesn’t get you hype, Toy Story 1 and 2 are the two highest reviewed movies on Rotten Tomatoes EVER, and Toy Story 3 was the second animated movie EVER to be nominated for Best Picture (yes best picture not best animated picture) at the Oscars. So, yeah, this movie is going to be GOOD.

1. Avengers: Endgame (April 26th)

I mean, duh. If you didn’t think this was going to be number one you’re a goddamn idiot. Avengers: Endgame isn’t just going to be the biggest movie event of the summer or of the year, it is going to be the biggest movie event of all time. It’s more than a movie. It is the accumulation and final chapter of the story being told over twenty two movies over the past eleven years. Endgame is being projected to make up to 300 million dollars domestically in it’s opening weekend (beating the record held by it’s predecessor Avengers: Infinity War at 257 million), is projected to make up to 900 million dollars worldwide opening weekend (destroying the record held by it’s predecessor by over 300 million dollars). We are about to witness a movie be bigger than anything we’ve ever seen. This is history happening right in front of us. This weekend’s release will start off the summer calendar of 2019 with a nuclear blast. I don’t want to get into what I think will happen too intensely as I am publishing a blog Friday on release day about my predictions for the Endgame, but essentially the basic plot goes something like this: After The Mad Titan Thanos eliminates half the population of the universe, Earth included, the remaining Avengers must fight Thanos one last time and find a way to restore the billions of people lost on Earth and countless amount of people lost throughout the galaxy. LETS. GO.
